Article In Marie Claire...To Me this is Outrageous!!!

Today on the CBS show The Talk, I heard about this article and after reading it I find it completely outraging!

Marie Claire Article

Should "Fatties" Get a Room? (Even on TV?)

I find this so disturbing, as a viewer of this show I absolutely LOVE it! I think it hits so many topics that normal every day people go through.

Yes it is about 2 people who are over-weight and met at Over-eaters Anonymous, yes they may be bigger in size, but who are we to judge that. If you do not like watching "bigger" people have a relationship then do not watch the show!   The show isn't just about that, the sister has drug issues, the mom's are crazy in their own ways, everyone on the show has a different issue, issues that in one way or another we can all find a way to relate to.

I personally come from a background where I had weight issues, I was very under-weight for many years, I was called a "bean-pole" most of my life. Though I was not anorexic, I was not bulimic, though many people often insinuated that I was.  I had medical issues from being under-weight and unhealthy, I recovered, I gained weight, I am not perfect, but how many of us are. I think this show is good for people, over-weight, under-weight, or people suffering from issues of low self-esteem ect. It is a show that lets them know there are others out there dealing with the same issues, working through the same things; that we are not alone to fend for ourselves in a world that is so judgemental to these touchy issues.

I am just glad that enough people must be watching this show as it has been picked up for an entire season!!! And I will be watching every episode!

Please read the article, and post your views on our facebook comments section for this blog!

Taking The Next Step

Taking the next step! We often fear the unknown, fear the fact that we don't know what will happen next, fear change! It is so hard to make a change, especially the big changes in life. It is scary not knowing what comes next, where do we go from here, or how things will work out.

However this is a step that my husband and I are working on taking. We own a small business, a good one; we get a lot of work, but with having our children, finding sitters, the hours we put in, and the pay we receive (as we do not charge anywhere close to others in our industry because it is about loving what we do not the money) we decided to quit our business and take the next step in our lives.

It seems this was a lot easier for my husband, the free spirit (for the most part), however for me...a completely different story. I'm the worry wart when it comes to stuff like this...always asking the "what if's" or "how's it going it work out", when of course we won't know until we take the initial plunge and get our feet wet!

So I talked to a friend, who gave me some great advice..."mom of many I was told once, the scariest things in life are usually the best things in life." Which when I thought of it; it was true!

Remember your first day of kindergarden, most of us were terrified of leaving our parents and being away from them not knowing what to expect. But after a little while we made friends and found that it was fun, finding dinosaur bones in the sand box LOL.

Then years later you graduate high school, thats a HUGE step. We decide what we want to do with our lives, do we go to college, get a job, have children, get married. All big decisions, but we have all made them without knowing what lies before us.

So after thinking of all the BIG decisions I have made in my life, asking myself "What's Next?" is not so scary anymore.

If you find yourself fearing the unknown, worrying about taking the next step, think of what my friend told me "the scariest things in life are usually the best things in life." Then think about the big decisions you have already made in your life, reflect on those and see how they turned out, most hopefully turned out well. Never be afraid to take the next step...it may just be the best step you ever take in life!

The ABCs of Marriage

Many couples have rough spots in their marriages, whether you have been married a year or 10 years we have all had our problems big or small. But to make a marriage work it takes a lot of work, from both parties involved.

I came across this wallet card called "The ABC's of Marriage" many of them I agree with. How do you feel about it?

Affirm each other in life
Begin each day with love
Communicate openly and often
Depend on each other
Encourage and support
Flirt Often
Give generously
Hold hands
Instill honesty in all you say and do
Journey together
Kiss everyday
Listen, Laugh, and let go
Make a memory each day
Never go to bed angry
Open your soul
Pray with each other
Quote love poems
Respect each others differences
Share your hopes, dreams, and fears
Tell each other "I love you"
Unconditional love
Value each others opinions
Wake up each morning with a kiss
X-ercise patience
Yield to the temptation to spoil your spouse
Zealously purse joy and peace for each other

Though many of these are an important part of marriage I feel that the C for Communicate is the biggest to pursue in a marriage, if you cannot talk to one another how can anything else fall into place. So I would say that is the biggest one we use every day. The one I find hardest to do is Wake up each morning with a kiss. being that my husband gets up fairly early for work and I am normally sleeping when he leaves this one is hard to do on a daily basis.

What are your favorites in your marriage? Or what things do you hope to have in a marriage if you are not married? Which ones do you find hard to do?

Woman's Attire Choice In Public....What Do You Think?

On facebook the other day I saw a post and it really bothered me...it was a post from a woman, about being in public and seeing another woman in her pajamas and slippers at the post office. The woman who posted wondered how woman can let themselves go out in public like that, and not fix themselves up before leaving the house. Saying that women should be women and look good when they go out.

Really? What does it matter? I am not the type of person to judge people. So I guess that is why it bothered me so much. Maybe the woman was having a bad day and didnt feel like getting dressed, maybe she had a loss in the family and was upset and when women get upset we don't feel like being pretty. There are so many different things that could have kept her in her pajamas, maybe she was having a lazy day.

I know I have had days myself where I have gone quick grocery shopping in my lounge pants, tshirt, and slippers. But I am raising children, and when I did this I was pregnant and not feeling well either. And really, who do I need to impress at the grocery store? Do you really think the cashier cares that I am in stripped slippers? They get paid no matter what I am wearing.

I do get gussied up when I go out with my husband, or out to dinner or for a special event. But why does it matter what I do in my down time. I work hard as a mom, as a wife, and for my part time job...do I really need to look good for everyone? I look good for those who matter to me when it matters that I look good.

So how many of you have done this? Gone out in a public place in your pajamas and slippers? Does it bother you that people may judge you for it? Or are you one of those who think no matter where you go you should do your self up and look good, even if its only a 5 minute trip to the grocery store? Opinions please, lets get the discussion and opinions rolling....can't wait to hear them!

Favorite Fall Cookie Recipe

With fall upon us and winter fast approaching I always start craving my favorite cookies this time of year. Pumpkin Cookies...they are just so good and they seem to hit the spot when you have that moment of I am hungry but I am just not sure what for. I make DOZENS of these every Christmas for family events. So I am hoping that one of my favorites becomes one of yours:

This pumpkin cookie recipe includes directions for making your own pumpkin purée.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup pumpkin purée, canned or homemade*
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • if you want to make them your own you can also add walnuts or chocolate chips to them (I personally LOVE them with chocolate chips, if you add those use semi-sweet one bag for every batch you make)

Preparation:

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and egg. Stir in the pumpkin purée. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir flour mixture into the creamed mixture along with the milk. Blend thoroughly but do not over beat. (if adding walnuts or chocolate chips, add them in while mixing the two mixtures together)

Drop cookie dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for about 12 minutes, until set. Cool for a minute; remove to racks and continue to cool.

To make pumpkin purée, cut pumpkin in half, crosswise. Remove seeds and membranes. Place on a greased baking sheet, cut side down, and bake at 325° for 1 hour, or until tender. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove pulp and place in blender or processor. Purée or process until smooth. Place in a cheesecloth-lined mesh strainer or sieve and let drain into a bowl for about an hour. When dripping has stopped, put purée into a container, cover, and refrigerate if not using right away.

Makes about 3 dozen pumpkin cookies.

Hope you will enjoy these as much as I do!

To Hold Your Tongue or Not to Hold Your Tongue?

The question of the day, to hold your tongue or not to hold your tongue?

We are all faced with people in our lives who think that they can dictate to anyone in which they choose. Well that does not sit well with me. I am a very blunt person, I will not take orders from people. If you ask me to do something and I can, I will help. But please do not expect me to jump when you make your demands, without a please, or can you, or would you.

Recently I have encountered this situation yet again, with a person very close to our family, though the situation is a lot more in depth than just dictating to people. It makes you wonder do you hold your tongue and let it go though it is affecting other people as well, or do you put the person in their place at the risk of hurting the others close to you?

It is such a hard decision to make. Either way someone can get hurt, but if nothing is said it will continue, eventually start eating at you, and can still pose a risk to hurting others you love. So what do you do?

When I was younger I wouldn't have given it a second thought, I would have told the person off not caring who I hurt in the process, it's funny how time and age change us. Though I am still very blunt in some instances, but when it comes to people you love, family, and friends and people you know who are close to them, you always have to think about what you are going to do before you do it.

Though I know more likely what I am going to do in this situation, how do you handle people that just get under your skin? When do you get to the point of hold your tongue or not hold your tongue?

Hope this gets people talking.

Life's Stresses

You know, every day we wake up hoping that today will be better than the last...then life happens. Throwing its stresses into the mix and causing so much havoc. We all go through it at one time or another. Whether it be paying bills, family issues, medical issues, or any other number of things. It always seems to happen that when it rains it pours. I have had a week like this, just this past week.

One thing to remember when life's stresses get you down is that we need to live our lives to the fullest! Take it day by day and never let it get the best of you. Though that is a LOT easier said than done, it is something that will eventually get us through whatever it is we are going through at the moment. If you have that certain loved one beside you, cling onto them and let them be there to help you through it. Never take it on alone, that is a lonely and exhausting job. Let those who love you be there for you, as it helps them through it as well.

Just remember that: Life is what you make of it...if you give up and stop trudging through it, then its not going to be so grand. But if you take it day by day, you trudge through to see better days ahead, you look back and can say "I did that, I made it through, those days are behind me now and I am better for it"
